Working together on identification: Weltix and DTIF
Tokenised issuance in Italy is moving from pilot to practice. As bonds, asset-backed securities and structured notes are issued onto public blockchains, banks, custodians, data vendors and supervisors need a shared, unambiguous way to refer to each token.
That is why we are working with Weltix, an Italian fintech that operates a DLT register under Italy’s Fintech Decree. Every tokenised instrument on its register now carries a Digital Token Identifier (DTI). With the tokenised asset-backed security issued by BPER Banca and Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, which settled on 27 October, ten financial instruments on the register are now identified by the DTI Foundation.
Two roles, one outcome
Weltix runs the regulated register and works directly with issuers, so it can attach identification at the point of issuance. The DTI Foundation is the Registration Authority for ISO 24165 and holds the reference data behind each DTI, including the ledger a token is deployed on. Weltix registers DTIs on behalf of its issuers, and we maintain the authoritative record each identifier points to.
Three identifiers, one clear picture
- ISIN: what the instrument is
- DTI: the token itself, and the ledger it sits on
- LEI: who issued it
With all three paired on the register, firms receiving the data can match records across systems in a robust manner.
Building together
Weltix joins a growing number of DLT platforms adopting ISO 24165, and its integration lays the groundwork for the next phase of tokenised issuance. Embedding identification at the point of issuance now means every new instrument enters the market already recognisable to the downstream systems and processes that interact with it.
As the market scales, consistent identification becomes essential infrastructure. We welcome other register operators, issuers and market infrastructure providers to align with the industry standards for token and ledger identification, and to help build a transparent, trusted market for all participants.
